It was 2009 when I decided to start shooting with large format, I started with a Sinar F2 4×5, a 3.5 kg monster (body only) whose suitcase occupied the entire boot of my car. My first thought was, “ok, I want to approach photography in a more thoughtful way, enjoy what I’m doing and take all the time I need to do what I love to do… but I don’t want to break my back!!! “

There was no other choice, I had to combine my manual skills with my passion. I had no other choice, I had to study and make a camera that solved these problems found in the field

• Low weight, i don’t want to break my back
• Easy to carry, to put it in a backpack
• Large extension of the bellows, with a camera I wanted to be able to shoot a little bit of everything
• Easy to focus, i need a good ground glass with fresnel,because I didn’t want to lose my sight
• Good movements, possibly with mechanical zeroes so I don’t get lost under the black cloth

Era il 2009 quando ho deciso di iniziare a scattare con il grande formato, ho iniziato con un Sinar F2 4×5, un mostro di 3,5 kg (solo scocca) la cui valigia occupava tutto il bagagliaio della mia macchina (una Fiat Punto). Il mio primo pensiero è stato: “ok, voglio avvicinarmi alla fotografia in modo più ponderato, godermi quello che sto facendo e prendermi tutto il tempo necessario per fare ciò che amo fare… ma non voglio rompermi la schiena!!! “

Non c’era altra scelta, dovevo unire la mia manualità alla mia passione. Dovevo studiare e realizzare una macchina fotografica che risolvesse questi problemi riscontrati sul campo

– Peso ridotto, non voglio rompermi la schiena
– Facile da trasportare, da mettere in uno zaino da montagna
– Grande estensione del soffietto, con una macchina fotografica volevo riuscire a riprendere un po’ di tutto
– Facile da mettere a fuoco, ho bisogno di un buon vetro smerigliato con fresnel, perché non volevo perdere preziosi decimi di vista
– Buona estensione dei movimenti, possibilmente con zeri meccanici per non perdermi sotto il telo nero

ALLERT!!! video brutto, prendete una pasticchina per il mal di mare, dopo questi doverosi consigli potrete immergervi nel nuovo video molto più “ad minchiam” del solito, così avrete anche la possibilità di immergervi in una realtà artigianale piuttosto autoironica e scansonata delle campagne toscane, i guru li lasciamo a Dubai o nei video con sottofondo jazz.

Io invece vi faccio vedere cosa bolle in pentola e cosa ho pensato per migliorare una fotocamera già uscita qualche tempo fa, la Archi-Mede 4×5, che ha ricevuto dei feed-back positivi ma anche un’osservazione che mi ha fatto riflettere ma soprattutto fatto accendere la lampadina per una miglioria davvero importante. I will immediately clarify a concept to those who are not clear, the continuous improvements that I implement on the cameras of the Hyper line have the sole purpose of providing a more performing camera possible at the same price and the latter wants to be the most honest price (mind you, honest , not lower) as possible to ensure that as many photography lovers as you can stay in this world because they are satisfied with the investment made.

In the wake of the developments applied on the Hyper 8×10, I have also made improvements on the Hyper 5×7 that I present to you in this short video today.
The improvements concern both the rear part, one of them is the implementation of the safety tabs already present on the top of the range model Lucrezia 5×7 (and introduced in the previous video also on the Hyper 8×10) which, while maintaining the magnetic back, will prevent the involuntary detachment of the back when switching from portrait to landscape mode. Another improvement concerns the spring system that pushes the chassis which has been completely redesigned in such a way that it can also accommodate the Graflock reduction backs, an option not present on cameras in the same price range. The new system is really simple and ingenious and without any effort will allow you to make the best use of the roller reduction backs.

Chiarisco subito un concetto a chi non fosse chiaro, i continui miglioriamenti che implemento sulle fotocamere della linea Hyper hanno come unico scopo quello di fornire una fotocamera più performante possibile allo stesso prezzo e quest’ultimo vuol essere il prezzo più onesto (bada bene, onesto, non più basso) possibile per far sì che un maggior numero possibile di amanti della fotografia come te, rimangano in questo mondo perchè soddisfatti dell’investimento fatto.

Sulla scia degli sviluppi applicati sulla Hyper 8×10, ho provveduto a fare dei miglioramenti anche sulla Hyper 5×7 che vi presento in questo breve video di oggi.
I miglioramenti riguardano entrambi la parte posteriore, uno di essi è l’implementazione delle linguette di sicurezza già presenti sul modello top di gamma Lucrezia 5×7 (e introdotte nel precedente video anche sulla Hyper 8×10) che, pur mantenendo il dorso magnetico, impediranno il distacco involontario del dorso nel passare dalla modalità ritratto a paesaggio. Altra miglioria riguarda invece il sistema di molle che spinge lo chassis che è stato completamente ridisegnato in modo tale da poter accogliere anche i dorsi di riduzione Graflock, opzione non presente sulle fotocamere della stessa fascia di prezzo. Il nuovo sistema è davvero semplice ed ingegnoso e senza nessuno sforzo ti consentirà di utilizzare al meglio i dorsi di riduzione a rulli.

Then you know very well how uncomfortable the recessed lensboard.

I understand that most photographers are content to go out only when there is a beautiful sunny day, but have you ever tried to go out with a large format camera when it is snowing and cold? You find a nice tree and you want to take a picture, take all your gear out of your backpack, put everything on, but the hardest part is yet to come. The beautiful tree is very close and you are forced to use a 90 mm … with the recessed lensboard… a nightmare!!!!

You will have to take off your gloves, the cold will cause you to lose sensitivity in your hands and you will have to try to load the shutter into the small slot…

The pleasure soon turns to torture, but I have found the solution!

Sei un fotografo che usa spesso obiettivi grandangolari?

Allora sai benissimo quanto sia scomoda la piastra rientrante.

Capisco che la maggior parte dei fotografi si accontenta di uscire da solo quando c’è una bella giornata di sole, ma hai mai provato ad uscire con una fotocamera di grande formato quando nevica e fa freddo? Trovi un bell’albero e vuoi fare una foto, togli tutta la tua attrezzatura dallo zaino, monti tutto quello che c’è da montare ma la parte difficile deve ancora venire. Il bellissimo albero è vicinissimo e sei costretto ad usare un 90 mm… con la piastra rientrante… un incubo!!!!

Dovrai toglierti i guanti, il freddo ti farà perdere la sensibilità alle mani e devi ancora caricare l’otturatore mettendo le date nella piccola fessura…

Il piacere si trasforma presto in tortura, ma ho trovato la soluzione!
